- Pictured here and here are Mallory-Denk bodies in ballooned hepatocytes.
- Answer: E. p62. Pictured are Mallory-Denk bodies, which are aggregates of misfolded proteins mostly containing intermediate filaments (stain positive for CK8/18), amongst other proteins. Additionally, they are labelled for intracellular degradation via ubiquitination and thus stain positive for p62 and ubiquitin.
- Definition: Mallory-Denk bodies are eosinophillic hyaline cytoplasmic inclusions in hepatocytes found often in the context of alcoholic hepatitis, but are known to be present whenever there is hepatocyte injury.
